This piece began with a very simple shape sketch. The details worked and wormed their way out during the carving process and the feeling evolved as I worked the stone.
To me, the shape began to express the discord between one's external presentation and internal dialogue. On one side, the decorative outer shell, seemingly open to receive. On the other side, the opening speaks instead of being split open, threads fraying, as the two ends try to balance.
